The Havens Chapel Food Bank serves our neighbors who live between Christiansburg, Check, and Floyd and Montgomery and Floyd Counties. We encourage others to attend a food bank in their community. All items available at the Food Bank are donated or purchased through funds donated by churches and individuals. No funding is received from government sources.
The Havens Chapel Food Bank was begun to help our neighbors who are struggling to meet basic needs of their families. It is an outreach ministry of the Floyd Parish of the United Methodist Church, of which Havens Chapel is a part. Those who come to the Food Bank are only asked to provide their name, address, and number of people in their home.
The Food Bank operates from 10 am to 11am on the third Saturday of each month. You drive around the church and a volunteer will put the food in your car. If someone is unable to come on that day, they may call Diann Conner (540-651-8215) or Mary Alice Hancock (540-651-4591) to arrange another time.
Available items vary depending on donations, etc. Usually staples (canned vegetables/fruit/meat, soup, cereal, pasta, peanut butter, etc.), perishable food (vegetables, bread, margarine, cheese, eggs, hot dogs, etc.), cleaning and laundry supplies, toiletries, and pet food. Turkeys are available at Thanksgiving and hams at Christmas.
